I always knew Bender was accident prone. When I got home today, he was curled up on his bed, and when he got up to see me he couldn't bear weight on his front left leg. Once I got him settled down I saw his knee was swollen - its technically called a 'stifle'. I think that he had discovered the other day he could jump on the front wall of the house and kind of launch himself up a little more with his legs. I think he's jumped up the fence and landed badly and torn his ACL. The fence is a touch higher than 6-foot I think. I have been reading on the internet and apparently surgery is the only real option for recovery. And I'd say no more throwing the ball in the air for him either. Apparently 65% of dogs who do one stifle do the other one at some point in the future. I am so glad that I have doggie health insurance!!!!! The other problem is keeping him confined during recovery. He's a bit big to put him in a crate! :PPP
So we are going to spend our morning at the vet tomorrow, and my credit card is about to take a hit. It took Pet Plan about 2 months to pay out on his last claim so I don't think this one will be much different :((
