long live the chinese gene

i thought i was a stalker, until i read about real-life stalkers who are willing to do ANYTHING to get someone's DNA. people who send flowers, buy drinks for, dig through trash cans to get that starbucks coffee cup and travel thousands of miles to solicit DNA from a potential person who could be the last known male descendant of their great-great-great-grandfather's brother.

i can't say i haven't been interested to find out where exactly i originated from. but i guess the truth is, being chinese, it wouldn't really be an exciting genealogy pursuit. my grandparents/great-grandparents (maternal and paternal) were from south of china, where we are known to display slightly more tribal and 'low caste' physical attributes (dark skin, big and wide noses, hairless and APPARENTLY SLENDER). i have a feeling i am strictly a southern mongoloid. (though it would be cool to be part-mongol)

but it doesn't matter anyway. whatever exotic shit in me is so diluted that it wouldn't be of scientific/cultural importance anyway.

there's this dude i know who loves launching into his great family history. we had dinner on sunday night and someone at the table asked the dreaded question, "so.. what ARE you?"

his face immediately lit up and proceeded to give us a blow-by-blow account of which person of which country and of which ethnicity fucked which person of which country and of which ethnicity to produce offspring that would eventually result in his existence. malay people of arab/egyptian heritage seem to love emphasizing they come from a totally upper-class society.

shit man, who the fuck cares really. the way i see it, 60% of the world population is going to be part-chinese by 2050 anyway.
