so i'm leaving work this morning, walking to my car in the parking lot, and this guy comes up, introduces himself as eric who works at the angus grill, and proceeds to tell me this long, rambling story about how he lives out on gulf beach highway and his girlfriend kicked him out and he has no gas money, and on and on and on, and then asks me for anything i could give him to get gas. initially, i lied and said that i didn't carry cash on me as a result of working nights (which is probably not a bad idea), but that he might be able to work something out with the opening cashier inside. so he went in. well, i got in my car and started to drive away, then pulled up to the curb and stopped for a minute. i felt kind of guilty...he seemed like a reasonable guy with a legitimate story. so i yelled at myself what a dumbass i was, walked inside, and gave him twenty bucks. he thanked me profusely, and asked me what my schedule was so he could get it back to me, and after i told him, offered me and sky a free dinner or two at the restaurant where he works (i have no idea where it is, but i imagine i could find it). so he drove away. i then got back in my car and yelled at myself some more, with monumental amounts of colorful language, because i can barely afford to spend twenty dollars on myself, let alone some guy i've never met.
i realize that rational people probably don't do things like that, and that i may never see that money again, but hey. maybe he really does plan on paying me back, or at least he'll remember that someone once helped him when he was in trouble, and he'll help someone else.
