So YES I turn twenty-one tomorrow.  Funny, but it doesn't feel as earth shattering a change as my last birthday.  I guess I was just more excited about not being a teenager than becoming a real adult.  At least now I will never be prohibited from entering a sweet sweet bar.  Anyone up for Tim's?

I've been on a cooking spree lately.  Most of my adventures have been (surprisingly) successful, except for the miso soup I made last night.  I don't know why, but my miso NEVER turns out well, unless miso is supposed to taste like really bad breath, in which case I'm a culinary genius.  A few days ago I made cheese blintzes with pumpkin and carrot crepes.

my summer has been mostly uneventful.  I've spent far too many hours filling paper cups with caffeinated beverages and far too few actually living.  I think I should start learning how to do this because frankly, asking "do you want whip on that" 5,347 times a day isn't really exercising my creative abilities.

I'm starting a reading list but help me out here:
and you shall know our velocity by david eggers
soul of a new machine by tracy kidder
and well, that's all i have so far.  i think.

summer has allowed me to spend a lot more time with my family, which is fantastic because i'm learning so much about respect, kindness and gratitude.  tonight my dad complained to my mom about his glass being dirty, and my mom apologized, took it into the kitchen, and brought out this:

and in conclusion--as some of you may have already seen in laura's journal--I have cut my hair again.  dissatisfied with soccer mom haircuts one, two, and three, I decided i will never again subject myself to the tired artistic talents of a hairdresser. au revoir professionnalisme!
