Looking through reports about USian
poverty, which is becoming one of my more frequent pursuits, my dreams disappear and any hope of a better life just flickers and dies away. The business mentioned above is inspired by something I'd never heard of, part of the New Deal created to support writers.
I know this sounds crazy, but it makes me sympathize with the people who deny reality, ignore history and refuse to acknowledge their past and that of their ancestors. The idea that the US government could have supported
writers at any point in the past is too painful to acknowledge. I don't imagine for a second this could happen today - or will happen in my lifetime. The government, like most powerful forces, would rather see me dead, impoverished, homeless, you name it, rather than surviving or that foolish idea, thriving.
