I was just perusing an online TV guide, and spotted that "The Golden Voyage of Sinbad" is on this afternoon.
The description is about what you'd expect, with a plot synopsis and who's in it, but finishes with "effects by Ray Harryhausen". I guess this shows how big a part of the film (and those like it) the effects were, but it got me thinking.
I don't think I could name another SFX guy who gets name-checked the same way as Ray Harryhausen. In fact, I'm hard pressed to name another SFX guy at all.
It's not often the back-room staff (apart from directors/producers, and sometimes writers) get to be famous like this, but it's nice when it happens.
