Ok so it was just the Whidbey News Times but here's the deal... one of the mom's - I have two of her kids - wrote a letter to the paper. Since its a letter and not an article it doesnt seem to be online so I'll recreate, its not very long : - )
Teacher Brings out the music
On April 30 at 5:45 a.m., our phone rang. It was Jessica Barker, Coupeville Middle and High School music teacher extraordinare, calling to start the jazz band phone tree to remind the jazz band that it was time to get up and come in for practice for tonight's concert.
Thirteen hours later after a very busy school day, she was there at the gym, cheerfully surrounded by over 150 respectfully dressed students who she had prepared for this concert. Wow. As she, the students, and principals, Mr. Rosenkrance and Mr. Ebersole, together set up chairs and music stands to prepare for the concert, it was very evident that she loves kids and music. It's a good thing because there were 41 students in beginning band alone.
Thank you, Jessica, for your endless energy and expertise! The kids are happy working with you and they sound great!
Karla Vier, Coupeville
How cool is that? I didnt know it was happening and wouldn't have found out but teachers all day were asking me if I'd read the paper. Anyway, I think its pretty neat and I gotta say, I like being appreciated. : - )
Definatly made my week and I think it will give me the push I need to get through the next 4 weeks. Thats right 4 weeks left!
