Inspiration

So, I have a new purpose for this blog, inspired by the speaker I heard at our GLMTA meeting today: I will be collecting inspiring moments - both inspiring musical moments in general and specifically inspiring teaching moments - to be reviewed whenever I feel discouraged in either of these areas. I could probably apply this to many areas of my life, but I will begin with these two.

So, first up, inspiring musical moments from this past week:

Last night I was looking through a folder of comment sheets from competitions, and it was so encouraging to reread comments from people that I of course had no idea who they were at the time, but now I know quite well.

During the meeting we were asked to identify an impactful moment in our life, and I immediately (because of last night's trip down memory lane) thought of a series of interactions with Yakov Kasman: a recital I attended my senior year of high school, continued introductions, a couple of lessons with him my senior year of college, and finally seeing him last year at the MTNA conference and being greeted with open arms.

And an inspiring teaching moment:

This may seem simple, but to me it means a lot: I got a hug from Victoria on Monday.

inspiring musical moments, inspiring teaching moments
