"Elite" is not a bad word. I repeat, no matter how many times Fox News tries to convince you otherwise, "elite" is not a bad word. According to Websters dictionary, "elite" means "representing the most choice or select; best." "Choice," "select," "best": all good things. If you were having surgery, or choosing a mechanic, or building a house, would you not want to hire the best person possible? Don't you brag when your sports team is first in the rankings? Nobody says, "Oh, I think I'll hire a mediocre contractor," or "Yay, the Bulldogs are 3 and 7 this season!" AND THEY ARE NOT RUNNING A COUNTRY THAT IS ON THE PRECIPICE OF TOTAL ECONOMIC MELTDOWN.
Why in the hell would you not want to pick the best president possible, America? Why is elite suddenly a slur? Why wouldn't you want your president to be better than you in every conceivable way? On a related note: "Intellectual," "smart," and "thoughtful" are also GOOD words, and acting like they aren't only proves how very much you are not ANY of those words.
I think we've damn well seen what 8 years of an "average guy" presidency is like. Can we please try to strive for something a little better now, please? I really don't want to move to Canada; cold weather makes me sad.
Love (for now, at least),
Jessica
