So yesterday was completely a stroll down memory lane. I went with momma and the dog for a walk at Lawrence School, my old elementary school. As we were driving up my mom warned me that most of the woods around it would be gone in a few years, since they have been destroying what's left of the country in Middletown for years. Sad. I don't think I had been there and actually Walked around since 5th grade, so it was nuts.
They made it more modern looking with these crazy giant ball sculptures and a fresh coat o' paint. Thankfully some of it was still the same. Same old basketball hoops that I got my finger stuck in in first grade and cried hysterically. Same black top where me and Margaret played with our horses. Everything was so Small though. I can remember racing across the black top and it feeling endlessly long. It isn't and it wasn't. They moved the swings to the black top and the playground is all brightly colored plastic and metal. The Cheese is gone. That made me sad.
Every step and memories caming flooding back to me. That was where I chased Kyle, that was where we had balloon toss and sack races for field day, that was where I played in the winter with Sarah and that bend in the road was where we had that fight with Zakiya on the bus. It was so strange, like I couldn't go a step without having had a memory in that very spot.
I peeked inside to see if I could remember any of the classrooms but they were too different. The cafeteria had seemed so enormous, but it was really so tiny. There were benches put in instead of the old square 4 person tables. There was a drink machine, of course there was a drink machine, it's 2006. God, it looked so tiny though.
