I was looking over this week's entries today, and the thought occured to me, why not make it an entire week of posting to my blog? Tomorrow will be a week, so maybe I'll just go ahead and keep the trend going for another week. I don't know! I got a comment from
kasumi_grl, informing me I needed to update more, so Lauren, here you go!
So, this morning, I made a necessary trip to my bank, and deposited some checks. That'll help the finances just a bit. This afternoon was pretty uneventful, except that I went through a stack of cd's that I forgot when I moved out of my grandmother's house. Most of them ended up in the trash, because the data on them was irrelevant to life as we know it, but I found a few little gems, among them being a version of Brighter Day that I laid vocals to. It was a track of Peter's, and I really liked it!
Teah called me tonight. For those of you who don't know her, she sings with a group called Northern Bound. They're a bunch of girls from southern CT who have come to our youth camp for years. They started a singing group, and I helped to pull them out of their shells, and tried to pull some good vocals out of them, and give them confidence. I recorded their first cd several years back. At the time, I knew very little about how to make a cd, but we learned together. The project turned out decent for what we did, but when it came time for their second project, even though I didn't record it, I was on hand in the studio to play piano, and do the arranging. Now, they're ready for their third cd, and although they asked if I could help, my schedule and theirs wouldn't have permitted it, so I turned down the offer, even though they're such good friends. They're producing it themselves, using a local studio with an engineer. I can't wait to hear what they come up with. It's like one of my kids growing up or something, but I'm excited. Anyway, Teah asked me if I'd make a guest appearance on the cd for one song, but ya know, I don't think I'm going to. You see, I'm burnt out with studio work! The Dixons' last project proved that to me, and although I'll still work with them, I want to keep studio work down to the minimum. I loved it at first, but now that Daniel Waters' projects are done, the Dixons' project is in their hands, and all the other little stuff is taken care of, I want to spend more time doing what I love, traveling and preaching and singing. This NB project's gonna be completely Jesse free, and I can't wait to hear it.
Who knows, maybe I'll come up with the inspiration for a solo project some day. The one track I have done with Peter is great, and if his and my schedules can work themselves out again, I'd like to record with him. The boy has good ears!
While going through a DVD of our church from three years ago, I came to a conclusion...I am not as hot of a musician as I once was. I've lost a lot of my technique, and I need to get it back. For a while, I plan on immersing myself with technique, even practicing boring scales, just to get my hands to work the way they need to! I'm sick of where I am musically, and it's time to improve! If I don't do it now, I'll further stagnate, and totally lose my drive. So, there's your update for today!
