We have been
back in Texas just over a year now and this summer has been vastly
different from the last one. When we moved here in May of 06, it was
already in the 100s some days, and we were on our second year of having
a major drought. At one point it started to rain and it was such a big
deal that my whole family went outside just to stand in it. My brother
yelled from the backyard "it's raining, aren't you going to come enjoy
it?"
This year has been a bit different.
We
were officially out of the drought sometime early spring and it hasn't
stopped raining since then. We've had a major thunderstorm at least
once a week since May (one of the best things about living here), and
in the past few weeks I feel like it hasn't stopped raining. The ranch
that Josh and I work on is close to Lake Travis and even though it's
monitored by several dams, it's been flooding as well. The weather has
been incredible though. It hasn't been above the mid-nineties yet, and
for that, I am thankful. This is very unlike any Texas summer I've
experienced, and we are enjoying it.
On
another note, we moved on Saturday successfully (it did pour briefly,
and we had a power outage...). Our place is a complete disaster for the
time being, but it's bigger and has more storage...so arranging is more
fun. We finally have a place (two balconies) for plants to grow - can't
wait to fill that up. We are currently back in Austin staying with
friends so Josh can work for a few more days. I will probably spend the
rest of the day looking for a new job and making jewelry.
