Word meme!
Reply to this meme by yelling "Words!" and I will give you five words that remind me of you. Then post them in your LJ and explain what they mean to you.
My five words from
roxykl630 are:
1) Adam Ant neatly sums up my anglophilia and audiophilia and costuming adoration in a pretty, pretty package. I rediscovered Adam in high school (having grown up on a few of his singles in the eighties), it developed into a full blow love throughout college that I still adore to this day. His amazing ability to both incorporate androgyny and yet stay overtly sexual, covering sexuality that goes beyond 'sex, booze and whores' was unique back it the day and still is unusual to this day. All while staying fun. He also ended up becoming a mutual point of interest for my best friend and I, as she learned that he was inspiration for an amount of the Visual K movement in Japan.
Adam's also the reason I know ebay faaaaar too well, since thanks to them I now own an original Prince Charming Revue shirt from 1982.
2) Jess and James are pretty much the two halves of my personality, fleshed out and given their own lives. I recently discovered variations of their characters dating back to when I was 9 years old (Jess, as you may have noticed, became an online persona when I first ventured into the online world 15 years ago). However, I really gave them their own little universe to run around with after my first major break up in high school, I think because I wanted to write a way to have the relationship work. Jess and James are who I always come back to; they've been in print at least 6 times; Three times nationally in short stories for Free Comic Book Day. Through them I made a lot of great friends, and farked with a dozen or so fandoms as time's gone by. They are both the mark of insanity with their crazy conversations and my ability to think as them far too well, as well as a thread of sanity too. Just wait, give them time, they will probably end up serving drinks or acting as 'mysterious magical beings that are the catalysts for quests' in your fandom at some point.
3) Terry Pratchet is GOD. 'nuff said.
Oh, all right. Terry Pratchett has taken all the awesome parts of fantasy and bits of sci-fi that I adored and proved that you could mock the very stuff you were lovingly writing and let the readers into the joke. The man is everything I would want to be in a writer- skeptical but respectful and funny as fuck without sacrificing drama, while raising a voice for charities and health care reform on the treatment of Alzheimer's. And fabulous hat wear. (And he has my art of his fridge!)
4) Conventions. Well, conventions have a love/hate relationship for me- they're a pain in the butt to plan for, getting to them is a bitch, and I always end up running from one end the other while spending too much money...but I've made a wonderful set of friends through them and kept close with others for it, and apparently parts of fandom recognize me for it (o__O), and we always end up having a ball.
5) Cooking! God, I love cooking. I will spend entire parties in the kitchen because I just can't stop- which is made all the more amusing that I tend to need excuses to cook (or just other people). Besides the recipes that have been handed down from my mother that I've alters, I tend to always alter recipes to whatever I have in the kitchen- I always pick up too much or forget something while shopping, someone is allergic to something (or doesn't eat ___ ) or I have an urge to work Old Bay into the recipe. Basically I live under the belief that anything can be altered. The Silver Palate cookbook and I are very, very good friends, even if I've only ever followed one recipe to specs. My flat mates now know when I suggest "party" I generally am asking to cook.
Also, I'm getting really miffed that Keith Olbermann is also taking NEXT week off too. Damnit, I want my snark!
