more money than brains

i am now among the ranks of those who owe more money than they make in a year.
why do we pay so much for supposed "higher education"?
do the all powerful they really think that because we're paying so much ( Read more... )

As I'm sure you already know, the almighty they make us pay so much for education so they can get rich and fat. I can't remember the exact numbers, but I read somewhere that tuition has gone up considerably faster than inflation has in the last 30 or so years. Most people wind up paying for college well into their 30s, and sometimes longer. Getting a degree these days costs as much or more than getting a house. Even an average college tends to cost upwards of $30,000 per year, now. Which is over $100,000 for your standard 40year degree. Which doesn't even count graduate or postgraduate degrees, which can more than double that, and are increasingly necessary.

There's something inately sick about making such a ridiculous amount of money just equipping people with the skills they'll need to make someone else ridiculously rich once they're finished...

i'm thinking it's probably a subset of murphy's law.
paying exhorbitant amounts for college education squeezed in there between finding the love of your life when you're not looking and don't want to get into a relationship, and your lucky shirt being in the dirty laundry the day you have that big interview.

yeah, i'm moving... kinda have to, seeing as how i'll be going to school in savannah, ga.
which you probably just forgot about with all that's been happening with you all... seeing as how you sent me a congrats email when i made the announcement that i got in! *grin*
i'm leaving around the second week of august. gonna meander my way down.
in the mean time, i'm stuck here at my parent's. altho, cavebear has graciously offered space in his abode until i go.
