In the Alleyways, In the Sidestreets, In Dark Attics and on the Silty Bed of Lady Thames...

It's very rare I throw out a public post, but I'm wanting to cast my net out as far as I can - if you're on my friends list and you know Londoners who LJ, I'd appreciate it if you point 'em at this post. It's a bit of a long-shot, but I'm optimistic all the same.

I need a little help: I want to know about London, from all you Londoners who walk the capital's paths. I'm not looking for tourist information, though; I'm wanting to know about the uncanny side of the city. The places where the shadows are longer and the feeling of not being alone lingers long after you leave the place.

Not strictly ghost stories (though I welcome those); what I'm more interested in are local legends, from any London borough, but I'm particularly interested in Central London. Anything and everything will interest me. Even ones that are not supernatural in nature - the kind of tales only the local folk know, but anything that's just plain odd, strange or spooky.

I also want to know about any buildings, roads, parks or monuments that have stories about them in a similar vein.

You can point me in the direction of relevant books or websites, or if you have the time scribble something down here. Nothing is too trivial; I just want to hear some of the stories that only Londoners tell about their city... the ones best told with a warming drink in hand and a fire to push the shadows a little further away...
