Those of you who I speak to in realtime (IRC, meatspace, etc.) probably already know that I have applied for a job with amazon.com.
This was in response to their
advert about a
development centre they've built in Cape Town. I can't really talk about what they do, having signed an NDA, but suffice to say that it's very cool stuff.
Anyways, I've been through two phone screens. I spoke to developers rather than HR people, which I quite enjoyed. These are the people who I will be working with if they offer me the job and I decide to go with it. (Which I probably will.) I'm not sure how other companies do it, this being my first proper job application process, but it seems a good way to do things. Now they want me to come to Cape Town on Monday for an interview which, I have been warned, will probably involve me standing at a whiteboard writing code.
Anyways, I hope to convince them that flying me down Saturday will be a good plan. That way I can spend some time with my cousins before the interview.
