I'm squeeing as the immature fangirl I sometimes am (it is kind of a requisite, isn't it?).
I finally bought Dan Simmons' two-volume scifi novel
Olympos, and there was a Star Trek reference that made my day. I mean, there are many things in the books that made my day, but this one was pretty awesome. In the part I'm talking about, when one of the human characters meets a group of robots, he mentions something along the lines of 'Beam me up, Scotty', before apologizing as there's no way the robots will understand the joke (it happens many, many, really really many years in the future).
Well, one of the robots says the human shouldn't worry, as they get the reference. And that he (the robot, which actually looks more like a small sized spider but has a really deep voice), in fact, has many times wondered about the existence of a physical/romantic relationship between Captain Kirk and Mister Spock.
I kid you not. There's no further speculation on the subject (other than the human not knowing what to answer to it), but. BUT. This was written by a Hugo and multiple Locus and Bram Stocker Awards winner, a Nebula and Arthur C. Clarke Awards nominee (among many other prizes), guys. It's like ... :D!!!!!!
