As much as all of this upset me, I do understand this decision. They had to make quick decisions. They didn't have tranquilizer guns, at least not enough. They were faced with the possibility of mass killings/injuries of people if they didn't control the situation quickly. As it is, one officer was attacked by a bear, and the man who killed himself was bitten by a tiger (probably) probably just after he killed himself. (So his body.) They were getting 911 calls from a widening area reporting lions, bears, jaguars, tigers, wolves, and animals that people weren't able to identify. They had to make a decision/devise a plan quickly before the animals got away.

From what I understand they did have a few tranquilizer guns, but the deputies on hand weren't trained properly. The fear was that the animals would sneak off into the woods before they fell asleep, and they wouldn't be found. Then later the animals would wake up and get away.

As time went on and other personnel came in they were able to catch six animals.

If someone's child had been killed in the tranquilizing scenario, they just wouldn't have been able to withstand the backlash. I know that's a pitiful reason, but it's certainly one I understand. That's why I'm saddened by all this, but I don't blame the authorities for making the decisions they did. The one I'm pissed off at is the bastard who killed himself and did this to the animals he supposedly loved.
