Thank you, thank you to
jassylou for my virtual birthday gift! You're such a sweetie!
Had an okay birthday, but now I'm looking forward to Christmas and taking out all the candles and stars and stuff. I have this proven three part time plan that's important in making the Christmas fun last longer and it starts this weekend...
It's so dark outside this time of year, seriously pitch black by 4 o'clock, which is kind of a downer, so first of Advent - that's when all the candles and Christmas lights come out. I'm really looking forward to burning many, many candles this year. It always cheers life up. I just bought Christmas balls with little lights in them too to put in the windows and I have stars for the downstairs windows, so it'll be very pretty.
I enjoy that for two weeks or so and then by Lucia (Dec. 13), all the Lucia gear comes out. I have some bought, some home made and of course, the pièce de résistance, the Lucias my sister and I made in kindergarten. They make me laugh every year. Some people hate flawed kid made decorations. I adore them. I'll take a picture so you can see the butt ugly things - the high point of my creativity.
A couple of days before Christmas out comes the Santas. I collect Santas. Mostly home made looking, lots of them in felt or wood. I try to buy a new one every year. I haven't found one yet this year, but I probably will, or I'll make one (yet another ugly decoration, heh). It's really getting kind of crowded, but the more the merrier must go for Santas too, right?
I also love Christmas food, so you'll probably get a full rant on that later. Possibly after I've made Lucia buns and gingerbread cookies this weekend. I've been out of town the last two Christmases, so this year it'll be great to just choose all the dishes I like and make them all for me and my dad. And then eat the leftover for the following week. ;-)
Oh, and I guess I should have said Happy Thanksgiving! to those of you who celebrated it this week. So Happy Thanksgiving! Hope you had lots of delicious food! :-)
