It started off as normal study time with Grandma when I suddenly saw this flash between me and grandma. I didn't see what it was since it went by so fast but I had never heard grandma scream so loud in my life.
"Grandma, are you okay?! Grandma!"
I remember how she didn't respond to me, how she kept muttering something about Grandpa.
"Ma, Maggie are you two alright?"
I turned around and saw daddy coming down the stairs, I guess he must have heard Grandma screaming. I just told him what happened. He then told me to go back upstairs so he could talk with grandma. I tried to listen to them at the top of the stairs but I only heard every other word.
Things seem to return to normal after that night, like it never happened. Except for the fact that daddy seemed to have been spending more time with grandma. But at the time, it didn't really seem strange to me.
Besides I was too busy with other things like hanging out with Mudkip and Danielle, working out with Morgan, and talking with Winnie on the phone.
Then one day, Grandma took me outside near the "Graveyard" (which what I called the spot with all the family graves) and she gave me this long speech about responsibilities and living up to the family name. She gave me a kiss and a hug
When Morgan and I woke up the next morning, we heard crying, we went downstairs found Daddy and Mama placing a blanket over Grandma. That was the start to a very hard day.
Grandma was buried by the late afternoon. After dinner, Mama and Daddy stayed by Grandma's grave for most of the night.
Morgan and I stayed inside.
The poor kid was just so torn up by Grandma's death.
All I could do was just kneel down and let my little sister cry.
Later that night, we got more bad news when the owner of the Pet Program that Kim was a part of, came by to tell us that they were firing Kim for a security assignment that went wrong and they were not going to accept her back.
After Grandma died, I tried to get more serious about my duties as the family heir. I helped mama cook, anytime something broke, I fixed it, stuff like that.
When Mama started showing her age, I doubled my efforts around the house, although I will admit that I may have overworked myself a bit back then.
Once Morgan hit her teens, she started to help around the hut too... well sometimes. Most of the time, I found her playing around and goofing off.
It was a little annoying at first, but I can't help but admire her for finding fun and pleasure in what we've got.
But eventually we got another helping hand when Winnie graduated from CU and came home.
Everyday she'd tell us about what college was like, what to expect, the people there.
She would give me books she found around the campus. Most of them were written before "The Disaster" and sometimes I could only read and make out some of the text. So I spent a lot of time trying to clean them off or copy off the books.
I was amazed by some of the things I read. I especially loved looking at the pictures, things that hadn't been seen since my Great-Grandfather's time. Plants, weather other than snow, dances, the ocean. The pictures I loved the most were the ones of other countries.
I remember constantly showing these pictures to Winnie and Morgan and Daddy and Mama.
Ever since I showed her some of those pictures, Morgan had been spending more time outside and at the Science classroom at school, one day when I was washing the clothes; I found a bit of dirt in Morgan's pockets.
I tried to ask her about this, multiple times, but she always avoided the question.
She either ignored me or claimed that she had homework to do... even if she had finished that same assignment two hours earlier. Eventually I just dropped it.
Besides I had more important things to worry about. I was almost 18 and I had to put in extra work in my assignments so I could get into CU. Both Danielle and Mudkip had finished their stuff and they were planning to put their scholarship money into getting the three of us a house.
Winnie was very helpful to me. Both with the schoolwork and getting my stress levels down.
I was so happy when I got my Acceptance letter, I ran around the hut, hugging everyone in sight. They were all so proud of me.
On the night before the bus would come to pick me up, after I took care of all I needed (packing my things, saying good bye to friends), I made a quick visit to the Graveyard, just to pay my respects as Mama put it.
As I walking back to the Hut, I saw something in the corner of my eye. It was Grandma! Without thinking I ran after her.
Just as I caught up to her, she suddenly disappeared. I just stood there, wondering if I just imagined it.
Daddy and Mama said that I was probably tired or maybe I ate something off that night. I simply agreed with them but to perfectly honest, I never really bought that explanation. I mean... even after Grandma disappeared, I still felt like I was being watched.
The next morning, I woke up with mama kneeling next to my bed.
"Maggie, Maggie dear! Get up, the bus is here!"
It took about a minute before I realized what mama was saying. I threw the blankets off my bed and knocked down the ladder to the top bunk. I grabbed my suitcase and ran out of the hut, while I was still wearing my slippers and bathrobe.
When I got on, I found Mudkip and Danielle sitting together. Danielle immediately joked about what I was wearing and Mudkip just gave me that goofy smile of his. Thus my College Days began...
Okay again, not one of my best chapters and I apologize. I really gotta work on putting in more drama and stuff actually happening into this story. Hopefully Maggie's College days will provide that. See ya later.
