The Campbell Apocalypse Chapter 6
Life was good. Even though people kept telling me to stay at home, I kept going to work and I was getting bigger and better jobs. Eli was the same, soon he was making plans to become, I think it was "Education Minister".
It was about a month before the baby was born when Geordi came home with a big grin on his face.
"Babe, have I got some good news for you!"
Geordi then told me about how during work, he was given a chance to meet the Don.
"I went to his home, he was very sociable. We sat down, talked, and he decided to make me a part of the 'family'."
"I tried to convince him to ditch the weekly protection money but at first he wouldn't budge, apparently the 'family' had been going through some financial trouble. That was when I told him about one of my co-workers, Joey The Comb. That bungling idiot had a huge fear of animals and so he wasted a lot of manpower and money on busting any attempts to make animal work programs."
"The Don was not happy when he heard that! He told me that he was going to see what he can do about the protection money, he can't guarantee that everyone won't have to deal with it but it's a start. Then he said that he was also going to deal with Ol' Joey in a special way."
I was a little confused but Geordi was able to tell we did not have to pay the weekly protection money anymore. Not only that but we could also have Moonshine join a Work Program. Geordi chose to put him in a Service job.
We were all happy to hear some good news, it made the remaining time a lot easier for me. But when life got a little less easy when I felt a familiar pain.
After a lot of screaming, I gave birth to a wonderful little baby boy, Caleb!
That boy grew up so fast, I could not believe it.
Things kept on getting better, one day, Eli came home from work and gave me and the twins a big hug. He had become Wrightwill's Minister of Education. He was now working on a high school program and when the twins become teens, they can still go to school! Also even though the roads were still scary, Eli was working on bring back the colleges!
With this news, all of us had the twins try to study harder. But it was not all work for those two.
The twins started to bring home this sweet girl from school one day. Her name was Babette Driftwood, she was a little younger and behind a couple grades from the twins.
Despite that, Babette came over any time she could.
It took me a few years but I figured out a way to fix the old power grid, I read about how the computer could be used for something other than writing and about neat things like lightbulbs in papa's books. Now these things are being made again.
Also after months of training, Moonshine got to the top of the Service Program. He was now helping elders who were like mama and papa.
I swear I could not help but spoil the little cat when we got the news.
And it was thanks to Moonshine, that the most amazing thing happened! I was coming home from a meeting when I saw mama cooking something on the stove. I walked up to her to make sure she would not abandon the food...
But she did not. In fact she finished the food and set up the table. Mama finally looked at me and smiled.
"Oh hello Amelia! You're just in time for lunch."
That was the first time in many years that mama used my name.
When I told Eli what happened, he went straight to mama and tightly hugged her.
"Eli, you act like you haven't seen me in years."
"I... Mo...I am just happy to see you mom."
The twins could not believe it when they came home, after all, mama went senile long before they were born.
I guess all the time Mama spent with Moonshine must have really helped her mind. Well what ever the reason, I was simply happy to see mama acting like her old self.
Well almost, everyday, she would go over to papa's grave and start making a snowman. Eli and Geordi said she probably did this because of papa.
After all that excitement, things were starting to slow down for us but the kids continued to grow up much too fast. I look at the twins and see two little kids playing on the play table and their baby brother playing with the Mr. Bunny toy...
Then I close my eyes and when they are open again, I see two teenagers goofing around and a young boy running around getting ready for his first day of school.
As she grew up, Lani started getting big dreams of fame and fortune. Although, I am still not sure where she got those ideas in her head.
Lance saw things like his Uncle Eli, he thought friends were the best thing you could get in life. He was always at his best when we had guests over.
The twins were very excited when they started high school. They made sure to thank Eli once he came home.
They would take chances to show off what they learned, they did it to me a lot.
A couple years later, Babette had started at the twin's high school, and she was once again a common sight at home. She had become a very lovely young lady.
I guess Caleb would agree with me. Every time Babette was over, that boy would rush over to go talk with her and play with her.
One night, when I come home from work, something jumped out and scared me! It vanished before I could take a good look at it. Then I saw it again near the edge of our home, it was Papa!
I told mama about this and she told me that the same thing happened to her! She said that she thought it was "a sign of things to come".
I never understood that until a year later. Mama told us to come outside with her and she stood next to papa's grave. She hugged Eli and kissed me and told us that she loved us very much.
Then she fell down, Eli checked her pulse.
"Mom is gone, she is with dad now."
After we comforted the kids, Eli and I buried Mama right next to Papa.
Please ignore the light behind the Don in the picture with his dog, I used a premade house (because I was lazy and he's a crimelord I'd think he could bypass the political restrictions) and I forgot about that light until I saw the picture.
