I have an office plant that I bought about three years ago at Lowe's on their clearance plant rack. (Also known as their dead, half-dead, or mostly-dead plant rack, because those are the only plants that make it to the clearance rack). Of course most plants on that rack are missing their label, so I had no idea what it was.
It's thrived since I bought it, and has gotten bigger and bigger. In fact, it was so top-heavy right before Thanksgiving that it kept tipping over, so I took it home and repotted it...and it liked that so much that now it's BLOOMING! Very weird stick-like flowers. But I'm thrilled. AND...once I saw the blooms, I was able to figure out my plant's secret identity: I have a Peperomia obtusifolia (aka Baby Rubber Plant). Whooo!
I have two more almost-dead plants at home that were both recent finds on the Lowe's Clearance Rack, and I plan to repot them both and bring them to my office-window-of-plant-resuscitation. As it turns out, my thumb is greener when I'm at work, as evidenced by the fact that all my houseplants at home are barely clinging to life.
