It's pretty surreal. Living here, that is. And the random things, like the history of our neighborhood and the whistle blowing traffic nazis and the crazy people in Farragut Square, are what remind me to be in awe about the whole situation. Other than the fact that I miss people, I have no major complaints.
Corporate Executive Board intrigues me. It's this massive animal of a company, but the financial success is a byproduct of their mission "beyond commerce" and their attitude of service. That's what they say, anyway. And I haven't seen much to suggest otherwise. I'm learning sooo much. Maybe more than I want to know, but I can't keep a blind eye to the real, for-profit world forever.
Our house is awesome and our neighbors are as diverse as they come. I've seen a few rats, but I guess that's to be expected. I told the squirrels to watch out.
Walking or taking the metro, it's about a 45 minute commute to work. That's ok. Work hours are 9 to 5:30 with a 30 minute lunch. That's not ok. I understand the whole 40 hour work week concept, but I think it's bollocks. People end up working to make money to buy work-related clothing, transportation, and meals... leaving 2 exhausted hours at night to clean the house or fix dinner. Maybe 15 minutes to paint-by-number. Sort of silly, if you ask me.
John Paul has been proofing data everyday at his job. It's supposed to get more interesting. Webb has only been working for 2 days, so not much news there. Franklin is just tootin' along without a job thus far. Holby gets here Monday.
Right now, we're at this cafe/restaraunt/bar/bookstore place called Bus Boys and Poets because we don't have internet yet, but we should by mid-week so I'll update more soon.
Time to get some DC doctors so I can utilize my personally earned health insurance. Crazy.
