the divine

Is there anything more divine, more sacred than the hug of a toddler? An infant just can't physically express that willful, determined statement of love that a toddler can. But after a long afternoon, when its time to settle down for a nap, and those arms go around my neck, caressing my back, I am just overcome. Lily is telling me, voluntarily - or perhaps involuntarily - that she loves me. I feel just a small squeeze of emphasis as if she was saying, "Yes Mommy. All is right in the world now." Its hard to even get up from the rocking chair because I know she will drift off to sleep and I have to forfeit the moment. And after chilly walks outside because she just needs "out," or having to say no at her multiple requests for popsicles at 9 am, that hug at 1:00 is just divine.
