I have my first photograph of the New Baby after having my twenty week ultrasound. The technician confirmed what I have been laughing about for a few weeks; this baby dances and flip flops quite a bit! He or she is moves with me as if our rhythms are all ready trying to synchronize. When I was laying down on my back for the ultrasound, the New Baby would always return to laying on his or her back.
As I was leaving the hospital, I observed a new mom and her newborn waiting for her partner to pull the car around for her baby's first trip home. The new baby was crying and the new mom was looking lovingly, albeit exhaustedly, at her new treasure. It was a humble reminder of how jarring this new epoch will be, for me and this new baby. Mercifully, may I be up to the challenge!
