Chepstow Castle
Was built during the 1100's. We did alot of climbing through the ruins. I love castles and have wanted to live in one since I was a small child. The castle overlooks the river. We shopped a bit and then headed onward to...
Tintern Abbey
which was about 20 minutes away. It was also built during the 1100's and later burnt down by Henry the VIII because it was a catholic abbey.
Wales is so beautiful. I wish we would have had time to see more. Did some shopping. I found Sean (my nephew) a double decker bus set and a dragon and a teapot stand for my parents. Got some other stuff and some tshirts with Celtic designs. I love the knotwork designs. Plus I needed some new tshirts since my old ones are a bit painty.
We had lamb for dinner tonight. It was quite good. I don't think that I had ever had it before.
Tonight, they are going to scatter Tim's grandfathers ashes under the magnolia out tree. Its what he wanted.
Tomorrow, we will be going to Bath Spa.
Tim and Marianna and I went downtown to O'Neills pub and had a wonderful time. British pubs are a hell of alot nicer and more fun than the shitholes that we frequent here.I am so in love with this stuff called Vodka Reef, it comes in Orange-Passion Fruit and Apple-Mango.
Tim and Marianna were outside talking about their grandfather for a bit. I had so hoped to have been able to meet him. He was quite an extraordinary man. They found a box of old letters and commendations from his war time efforts. He had been the British liason to Eisenhower and helped to coordinate troops for the storming of Normandy Beach on D-Day. He had letters of commendation from Eisenhower and the King of England. He never told any one of these things. Tim had mentioned before that he was on the team that cracked the enigma code and worked on the propellor/trigger mechanism for the British spitfires.
Tim's grandmother is absolutely wonderful. While we were downtown we went to see the relief sculpture edifice on Colston Hall, The Ballerina was modelled after Tim's grandmother.
Stay tuned for Bath Spa.....
