The Joys of Spring Break

Mar 23, 2005 18:39

So, this week is my spring break. It's a little different, because unlike at FSU, spring break doesn't really cut the semester in half...more of in thirds. Either way, it's still a nice break. So, I'll be picking up some extra shifts at work, bringing the work total to 28 hours. Yikes.
My niece left this morning. She's co cute. She's 8 months now, and she's actually doing things. She picks herself up on almost anything, and she's sooooo happy almost all the time.
As I sit here watching the news, the same story again takes the lead: Terri Schiavo. I've been following this story for about 18 months. I'm conflicted about recent events, namely the fact that Congress has gotten involved. Given some things that have recently come out about her husband, and the fact that her condition may not be as certain as they are making it out to be, I'd have to say that they should just err on the side of caution, and let her live until it's all sorted out. If it's such a big deal to her husband (who's gotten on with his life and started other relationships), why doesn't he just sign over guardianship to her parents. I'd have to say that her parents, who knew her for 20+ years, might have a better idea about her wishes than him, who knew her for about 5. On a moral level, I don't think it's right that we remove the feeding tube if there's ANY doubt about her condition. On a political level, I'm not sure how I feel about this congressional involvement. I'm still debating it. While I'm proud that I live in a country that will fight for an individual life on a national scale, should something like this really take up time in a national legislature? I don't know, although I'm open to other opinions.
