"I'm Crazy for You..."
Had "Crazy for You" auditions tonight. I had a horrible time choosing an audition song! The show is Gershwin, so I wanted to do a Gershwin or Cole Porter, but didn't have anything here that the directors haven't heard me sing before. I had decided to sing "By the Sea" from Sweeney Todd, but around 6:00 tonight (auditions were at 7), I decided that instead I wanted to sing "Summertime" from Porty & Bess. I thought for sure I had it in a book somewhere, because Porgy & Bess is an opera, and that's such a common aria, but I couldn't find it...I thought it was in a book that I'd lent to someone. Then I remembered that there were a bunch of song collections at the library in town and figured that since it's a standard, it would probably be in one of those!
So, I ran up to the library, found "Summertime" and a bunch of Cole Porter songs, ran home to eat dinner, then up to the church to practice for a few minutes (not allowed to sing at my house :-p), and then to auditions (only a few minutes late!).
I felt like my audition went pretty well. Lance didn't ask me to re-sing my song like he did a lot of other people. That might just be because he knows my voice so well though. And, I only read once for every part, but I figured that they know how I act pretty well, so when Diane asked if anyone wanted to read for anything else, I said no.
Now, it's the wait. I hate the wait! I remember when I auditioned for Clue, the director made his decision that night and called us when we got home! It was great! Diane won't do that though. It's late, she has a lot of parts to decide, and she's going on vacation early in the morning. I guess it'll probably be a few days. I can't wait though to find out what happens!
So, I'm probably going to be a snob about the whole thing. If I don't get a part I want (basically Irene, or maybe Polly, but I won't get Polly), I don't think I'm going to be in the show. Instead, I'll try out for Pirates of Penzance in Batavia, and then if I don't get a good part in that, I'll just play in the pit for Crazy. Really though, I cannot be in the chorus for this show, because the chorus is all young dancing girls and I'm not a dancer and definitely don't have a dancer's body!!!
Anyway, that's the story. I'll post when I find out what happens.
