While I am not a rabid Americanist . As I left my house today I looked up and down my street and as far as I could see in ether direction no flags. Only one on my house kinda old and tattered (I have had it since the war started). As I drove to work I kept looking around glanceing at the houses and things along the way, still no flags. I began to wonder My grandfather served in the Navy starting in 1938 and retired some time in the 60's. My father, oldest brother and nephew inlaw served in the Army.My uncle was USMC. My other brother and I served in the Navy. While no one was an"ultimate" sacrifice we all sacrificed some thing.
I turnned on the tv when I got to work looking for some channel that would show diffrent services/celebrations going on around the country not just in Washington DC. My roommate John had mentioned his brother who is a member of the national Army band was going to be playing today so I started looking for some mention of that. All that I found on some 60 plus channels was a very brief blerb on the news channel of the Washington DC service. Nothing on any other channel. Tobe some what honest I am some what saddened by this lack of display.
I don't think that you have to be for or against the war or the president or any of the myraid of other things that devide people.
I think people should be proud that they have the CHOICE to be for or against and the CHANCE to remember how they got it.
Is it to much for a few more houses to fly a flag 3 days out of the year to remeber those that have and will sacrifice. To be proud of being American or be proud that they live in America where EVERYONE enjoys the freedom that our flag repesents?
