Blouson Noir 1960-62
for Dave, Tony and Alex
I am the little gangster
of public brilliantine and drugs.
Night and the Seine
are hidden in my knife.
On the metro I see the blue
Parnassian elephant of wounds
in the reserved seats.
Broken boots. Cobbles
of brown Montparnasse,
among electric lesbians
glowing in the dark bathroom,
while animal rhythm
nuzzles the smoky brocade,
and black-marketeers polish
the dark scales of their racket,
I am consumed here
among imaginary fevers, the lucid flesh of...
and an ancient wall full of worms.
