Some of the joys of home ownership are in the little discoveries about the property after you've settled in a bit. That nest of baby birds, or the animal burrow, or the pretty rocks.
I have a chestnut tree.
It's on the property line between the Green Monster and the next-door neighbor, and it's huge. It stands taller than our three-story house. It's loaded with chestnuts.
It's also loaded with squirrels. They're busy stuffing themselves silly with nuts, and there are plenty more than the squirrels can eat. That, and the husks are large and spiny, especially when you're a squirrel with tiny paws, so they drop a lot. I pulled two large bowls of nuts out of the garden plot I'm mulching, and still left plenty behind for the little gray fluffies.
Anybody got any recipe suggestions?
Edit: They're
horse chestnuts. No good for eating. I only ate a tiny bit of one, so I'll ride out whatever adverse reaction I get and chuck the rest in the yard waste bin.
