GOOD MORNING!!!
Okay, so yesterday.
The societies faire was yesterday, and that was really exciting. I lost track of how many I signed up for, but this school has some whack ass societies. Such as the medieval battle society and the fancy dress society. This would seem awkward coming from a girl who's home institution is the fine place of meet for the Goucher Pyrate Association... but there are Pyrates here, too.
The head of the alternative music society called me a dirty gryffindor, but had hope for my soul because I was wearing a green hair ribbon. And the people at the church gave me free cappuccino, which was nice since I didn't even sign up for their list. I got ANOTHER free mug (one from the bookstore, one from Asdas) and a frisbee and free utensils. Also, the ale and cider club was handing out... ale and cider. At 1 in the afternoon. That was a delicious experience.
After the Faire I had some more class figuring out to do, and no word yet on which class I'm going to be in, so it's not really worth the rehashing quite yet. And Goucher is supposedly sending money to Kent today, which is considerate of them.
Jae and I finally made it into the city center, which was being overrun by school kids at the time. I wanted to take a bunch and put them in a snow globe, with their little jackets with patches and their little accents. Adorable.
Tescos was a fabulous experience. For some reason, items are bottled in glass more often than not- or else they can be found in a can. And Heinz makes a killing over here canning food. I have (had- it was my dinner last night) Heinz ravioli, heinz beans, and heinz mac and cheese. That's right. In a can. And I bought meat paste, which I'm looking forward to. And little one-serving portions of baked beans, which I am apparently supposed to spread on bread.
OH one super awkward thing I forgot to mention- the other day while ordering eggsalad on my sandwich, the woman asked if I wanted butter on the bread as well. O.o I was like "uhh... what?" She had to repeat herself. I didn't quite believe it. The other lovely cultural difference I can't get enough of is that there are NO spanish signs underneath the English ones. For example there is a big NO SMOKING sign in the dining hall and I looked at it and I was like "Where's the no fumar? WHERE!!!!" But it was NOWHERE!!! And then I smiled to myself.
one of the school girls tried to get on the bus yesterday while smoking and the bus driver said "sweetheart, if I can't smoke on here, you can't smoke on here."
I laughed a little. Canterbury city is SOOO pretty. The centre is pretty modern, but everything else looks like the newest building was put in before WWII. I will figure out how to get pics on this site and then you can see for yourself.
After the City, and walking around all morning from the faire, we decided to go our separate ways and take it easy for the evening. I got some more writing done (!!!) and there was a big karaoke party next door. I started watching clips of Saved by the Bell, and then full episodes of Boy Meets World, and 2 AM snuck up on me.
In American news, the Office premeired last night. I am trying to watch it online, but it's taking forever to load. iTunes doesn't have it yet, and NBC doesn't work in the UK :(
So. That was yesterday. Keep you eyes out for photos!

the office, canterbury, sitcoms
