Me blathering on about my favourite things- Reading..and coffee

I finished reading Takeover by Linda Black,

which turned out to be a pretty decent read. The first part took me a bit to get through but I think mostly because we’ve been busy and a lot of my novel reading is done in the car. Plus we had to do a bit of shuffling so I am now the drop-off person for school. Less time sitting and waiting. LOL Course that means I now have to think of an excuse to go up town in the afternoon so I can get a coffee from Timmy’s. After so many years of going by there on my way to get the kidlets I am slightly addicted to my caffeine.

The book was pretty good. The main character, Theresa, a medical examiner, gets caught up in a hold-up after her fiancé is taken hostage in a bank robbery.

I have a hard time with women main characters sometimes. Linda did well with Theresa. She’s a woman in a man’s world but still an everyday woman. She isn’t overly brash or have that prickly woman attitude towards men. She came across as smart, scared, worried and sometimes a little bit self-centered.

My only gripe was the fiancé. We got to know him a bit from his pov during the hostage scenes but not enough from her or him really, to see why she’d risk everything for him. And for that alone I kind of knew how that was going to play out. I actually felt more of a connection to the gunman, Lucas than I did for her fiancé.

Also there was just enough forensic stuff that if you watch csi or any of those shows you’ll know what they are talking about but not so much that it gets technical so the average housewife like me can follow along. Nice. Kept it fast paced and the mystery and wondering what the robbers really want kept you guessing right up to the end. All and all really good read.

Online rec's

Online reading has been a little pathetic. It’s a whole lot like treasure hunting right now especially at ffnet where I do a lot of my reading. I do have to laugh at the influx of stories trying to explain how Castiel and Sam are now friends after his comment to Anna in Back to the future. LOl Which honestly has been great, because really that needed explaining and is helping me to like Castiel a lot more. Not that I don’t like him, I do, he is really starting to grow on me…like mold. LOL Kidding! I just didn’t fall head over heels for him like half the fandom did.

I guess I  still keep expecting Castiel to turn out to be a traitor. I always thought he was Dean’s version of Ruby. Maybe even kind of hoped he was, so that we could have a little learning on Dean’s side. Kripke is usually pretty good at what’s good for the goose is good for the gander and especially anytime one of the boys gets high and mighty about the others decision, he likes to throw it back in their face.

I am really starting to appreciate Castiel more these last few episodes that he’s been in though. I think it’s that straight man humour that I am liking.
And I have read a few stories lately with really well written Castiel in them.

So. In honour of Sam and Castiel’s budding friendship lol here’s a couple with Castiel and Sam, having to spend time together without Dean. And one where they aren’t friends at all. These are gen btw.

Hella - Three by this author- read in order. Really liked the last one and the way the three together work up to an admittance of  friendship LOLOL. Plus Sam's just so hurty in the heart in the third and I can never pass up a heart achey-broken- I'm the bane of the world-and I deserve everything I get- Sam...poor boy.

Extension of the ending of 5x13 - The Song Remains the Same. An awkwardly reluctant Sam is left to care for Castiel after Dean leaves the motel, and a few questions are answered.

Sam rides out the punishing effects of his own personal famine binge, and Castiel offers what support he can to the imprisoned Winchester

Sam is cut loose from the panic room, and somewhere between it and the shower he and Castiel clear the air a little

This next one was kind of a switch. Sam is reassuring Castiel about faith.

I really liked that, because as tough as things have been for Sam I don’t think he has lost his faith totally otherwise he would have said yes to Lucifer by now. Reassurance for Sam would still be nice though.

Mimblexwimble- Lead me to Heaven

Castiel's losing faith. Sam's losing himself.

I’m really liking this author. They don’t have a lot of stuff and I wish it was longer but I like the little bit different view this person puts on things.

Someone in the comments made a big deal about the four years not working for every thing. I didn’t really see that as the point of the story. The point to me was what Castiel is seeing but then maybe I am wrong. LOL

And this is definitely not Castiel and Sam being buds. Season four tag to, “On the head of a pin”  I love this and this line, which pretty much says it all for season four Angels and their dealings with Sam.

“Castiel hung his head. If Sam Winchester turned from the side of the angels, they would have none but themselves to blame.”

This is also another author who always seems to have a refreshing spin on their stories.

I do have some other stories to rec but this was getting long enough so I will try to get them done another day.
