Basketball camp...or as I call it, Basketball Hell!
Ok so I know I said I wouldn't be able to update for a couple weeks...but since my supervisor made us come in 3 hours before anyone is due on the courts I have a bit of time to kill. Today is day 3 of my first camp, a team basketball camp which is basically a legal way for the high school teams to play some games in the summer. So this requires like 14 hour days from me, plus I have to sleep in the dorm. Just to give you an idea of my accomidations..it's way worse than anything I've stayed in (Florida State, 2 different dorms; a dorm in Texas; and of course UCF). The room is damp...seriously damp...like I climbed into bed at midnight last night and it felt like someone had used my quilt and sheets to dry off w/ after thier shower...how gross is that?? So aside from that bit of joy, camp really hasn't been too too bad. Really long days w/ interspersed times of craziness. My first night of camp I had a kid dislocate his shoulder..seriously, it was crazy! I didnt' want to try to reduce for several reasons...1. he's not my athlete, 2. he's a minor, 3. it was the first time he'd ever dislocated and there are so many things you could seriously screw up reducing a first time dislocation....but as "luck" would have it one of my peers was here watching her high school play and she decided it'd be a good idea for her to attempt this. I had assumed she'd done it before...or at least seen it done...but no! So anyways she was able to reduce it and I sent him to the ER w/ his dad to get checked out. Luckily there was no serious damage according to the ER docs so that's something at least. Other than that the injuries have been pretty typical..although I did have a kid fracture his fibula yesterday..all kinds of good funness. So that's my life so far. I have one more night in the dorms w/ this camp, then I get Saturday night at home, then Sunday I move back in until Thursday, then that Sunday I move back in for BAND CAMP until Friday...but at least band camp is paying me $600 to sit and do nothing (it's an indoor, symphonic band camp)!! So I can't complain too much. Alrighty...enough time killed...I think I'll go read now. Later peeps! As always I have my cell so call if you need me!
