It's been 3 nights since my "incident" with a speeding car. Right now I look like I have a lion mask on, My face is super swollen especially around my eyes. The lids, my left cheek and under my eyes are stretching my skin to transparency. Both of my eyes have been partially closed all day. Lars and I thought that I might be having an allergic reaction to my medicine. We went to my doctor appointment 4 hours early. I'm not allergic the doctor said that it is natural swelling. Yea, I don't need to be allergic to anything else. I was able to open the door tonight, I pulled the light swich on, I poured myself water and took off my own skirt. They seems like such small feats but it sucks when you can't do them without help.
Lars has been such a doll. He is my hero and champion. He has been helping me with every little thing and he has a cold now probably from staying up so much lately worrying about me and from being in the scariest hospital, LA County Hospital, for 15 hours with me.
Today he launched an internet campaign that got a whole bunch of wonderful friends and concerned bicyclist/ wonderful people to call Eric Garcietti's office on the behalf of my unsolved case. EG pressured the police and now that the wheels of justice have been lubricated we'll see what happens. Prior to this the police had done nothing even though they knew it was a hit and run, had the licence plate #, make of the car and identification from 3 witnessess who chased them down after watching them hit me at full speed. We'll be watching the investigation closely.
I remember the loud noise from being hit. It was huge and fast, low and rumbled with a large bang.
The next thing I really clearly remember is being at the hospital and about 6 doctors picking plastic out of my forehead each of the asking me in sucession what I was doing out so late riding. What!!!? I remained as calm as I could through the entire painful process. I breathed deeply, I sang, I told jokes, I asked the doctors about themselves. The 2 or 3 doctors who were dressed in pink? were studying triage so they could be shipped to Iraq in 3 months. When I heard this I cried and told them how sorry I was that they had to go there. I thanked the doctors many times and broke into crying jags many times because it hurt so bad and I couldn't pass out.
I was told again today that I most likely will have cronic wrist pain and that it could take a long time to heal, possible surgery and insertion of a pin. Boo. I am so thankful that I am alive, walking and not more messed up than I am although I am quite a fright. I so want the police to catch whoever did this to me before they do kill someone.
Thank You deeply to everyone who helped by making phone calls and to all my sweet friends who are offering me comfort.
Love, Jen Diamond
P.S- As soon as I am physically capable I will be back on my bike. I can't wait to feel the wind on my skin and through my hair as I descend through gorgeous Griffith Park. Riding isn't that dangerous. I just happened to have a twist of fate that intersected me & a maniac. Ride as safely as you can, walk as safely as you can, drive as safely as you can. You can't stay inside hiding. In my home town a woman was actually run over by a truck in her own house. It drove right through and hit her.
Ride safe, ride strong.
