A fun movie that didn't end well

So we went to a movie tonight, N and our friend J and me. By the way, Zack and Miri make a Porno is a very funny, very sweet movie. I loved it. Kevin Smith's best work in a while, IMO.

But the experience was marred by four girls in the back of the theater who could not keep their mouths shut. They weren't even trying to talk under their breaths. They were loud enough that the whole theater could hear them.
So I got fed up and said something like "Could you be quiet?" Yeah, it was kind of snotty the way I said it, but I was tired of listening to them. They responded with "Who are you talking to?" I said, "To you. This is not your fucking living room."
They were sort of quiet, at least a little quieter, for the rest of the movie. As soon as the credits started, N was hit in the head with a bag of popcorn and I got hit in the head with a plastic cup of milkshake. Poor J was the one who actually got milkshake all over him.

N leapt up and ran after the girls who threw the food; I ran after her. She actually managed to grab one of them and pull her back into the theater and ask for a manager. [ETA - N says 'ask' is too polite...she actually demanded a manager.] While we had hold of the one girl, they tried to tell us it wasn't them, it was their friend who ran away that threw both of the things that hit us. Okay, I could buy that the girl who got away threw either the popcorn or the milkshake, but both of them? I don't know anyone who is that accurate with both their dominant and non-dominant hands. One of the girls we were holding in the movie theater had to have been partially responsible.

By the time a manager finally showed up, the girls were gone. But he called security and a few minutes later we heard that the girls had been run out of the mall and that it was safe to leave. It hadn't occurred to N or J that it might not be safe...it had occurred to me. I was actually afraid that one of the girls might have a weapon and that we might be in real trouble because I couldn't keep my damn mouth shut.

I can't help but think that the incident shouldn't have happened at all because people should respect other people while they're in a public place. But I swear (and I can't believe I'm saying this...I'm not old enough) kids these days...they're not taught to respect anyone. I basically asked someone to be quiet in a movie theater and I ended up getting assaulted, along with my partner and my friend.

I'm not sure what my point is. I guess I just wanted to vent about it. It just amazes me that asking someone to shut up in a theater rates physically hurting the person who asked you to be quiet. I have an ice pack on my head and I'll probably have a bit of a bruise by morning, just because I didn't want to listen to someone else run off at the mouth. But I guess I'm lucky that none of us were hurt worse.

It was a fun evening of dinner and a movie that ended up being a big disappointment in people in general.
On the upside, N sure can move when she's motivated. *g* I owe her a backrub or something for catching those girls. Hopefully getting chased out by security will make them think a little.

But I can still recommend Zack and Miri...I thought it was a lot of fun!
