Cakes needed: 6
Cakes baked: 3 (chocolate all done...now on to the white)
Time until wedding: 8 days
There will be three two-layer cakes, each cake on a separate cake stand, so no tiering needed. But there are new skills to be tested. I'll be covering the cakes with fondant, which I've never done before. It'll be marbled, so when I put the color in, I won't knead it fully. It's actually a pretty easy process. Then after the cakes are covered, I'll go back and paint in some metallic, copper-colored veins into the marbled fondant.
The cake stand is sort of curved, so I'll be connecting the layers with 'bridges' of copper-colored gum paste leaves. Still not sure how that's going to work, but I'm sure I'll figure it out. :o)
I'll be going out this weekend to buy my fondant. I've got some to play around with, but it's not the best tasting stuff, so I'm getting fresh from a local vendor.
Must get the last chocolate layer from the oven now. My house smells like Guinness chocolate cake. YUM!!!
