Sad News

It's been a very long couple of days.

I was at rehearsal for a show on Tuesday night so I didn't get the phone call until after 10pm that my dad had had a heart attack and was in the hospital. It was his third heart attack; the first happened in 1980, the second in 1991. With all his other health problems, this time it was just too much for him.

My dad passed away at about 1:30 yesterday afternoon (Pacific time, in case any of you are looking at a clock and wondering...). It was quick and, according to the doc, painless for him. He suffered another massive heart attack and it was just too much for his tired body to take. He'd never fully regained consciousness from the attack Tuesday night, his kidneys and liver were starting to shut down. It was time for him to go.

I'm very sad...I'll miss him. He was my best friend in a lot of ways. But I'm also relieved. He'd been declining for years, bending under the weight of his diabetes, heart problems and cancer surgeries. He'd been legally blind for about 8 years because of the diabetes, which makes the final outcome of his passing rather ironic. He was an organ donor, but the only thing that was fit to donate is his corneas. So the blind man is going to help someone else see. :o)

Dad isn't talking to me...at least not like Fraser's dad. *g* But I feel his presence and know he knows his family is going to be fine. And I'm very blessed to have so many friends. It's made the last 48 hours much easier than it might have been to know I have so many wonderful people to lean on.
