Since I'm home sick
I figured it'd be a perfect time to rant about the Oscars.
WHY IS EVERYBODY SAYING THAT CRASH'S WIN WAS A SURPRISE???
All I've been hearing for the last two weeks is that Crash was going to overtake Brokeback Mountain and win Best Picture. And even though I was hoping Brokeback would win, it went just as I figured it would. Ang Lee won Best Director, Crash won Best Picture.
And if you really look at the results, the big awards really got spread around. There was no breakout film this year. There were a LOT of really good ones.
I admit to being disappointed when my favorites didn't win: Felicity Huffman for Actress, Heath Ledger for Actor and Brokeback Mountain for Picture. But I don't think the winners were undeserving. So for fuck's sake people, quit your bitching!
The only thing I hated about the night was the fact that they didn't give Lauren Bacall cards to read or a speech to memorize beforehand. It was torturous to watch her try to read the teleprompter. N and I had to turn the sound off during that little bit.
As for Jon Stewart, I thought he was fine...I think he should be given another crack at it and he'll probably be better. He had some really funny moments, but he looked like he felt like he was bombing and I didn't think he was.
Now, back to my subject line. Yes, I'm home sick. I was sick with the flu at the end of last week and I'm taking one more day to get better. I'm feeling much better than I was a couple of days ago, but since I have a show opening next weekend and work has been very busy and stressful lately, I decided I needed to take another day to rest. So I'm going to nap on the couch, watch Warner Bros. cartoons on dvd and watch the Barry Manilow concert I taped off PBS the other night.
But first, coffee and toast. Yum. Peanut butter...
