Surfing
Finally watched "Thicker Than Water" tonight. It's Jack Johnson's surfing documentary. I was thinking tonight that there is something really cool about how PR and Advertising really can't bottle up surfing like every other sport. I think I'm more aware of that in Hollywood because there is so much b.s. that goes into marketing to the masses. I like how hard it is to duplicate the experience of riding a wave. Every single wave is different... everytime in the course of history. That's so amazing!
There are the stereotypical surfer clothes but that only makes people look like posers anyway. Then again, I probably look like a poser since I'm not very good yet. I am dying to go surfing though but first I have to get in shape. This is the only time I'm jealous of guys - I want upper body strength! I don't want to get creamed by the waves after paddling around for hours. I think I'll go next Saturday either way. It will be fun even though I haven't ever had the desire to go on my own. I'm a little scared of sharks, especially in California, but I always feel safer in a group. Perhaps it's time to overcome the fear and just eat some waves!
