I don't know how much of an NDA [if any] I would be breaking by saying this, but we just got a guy named
Kevin Flynn on staff.
No, I'm not asking him. I am not gonna be That Person.
The downside to our company expanding is
the obvious squeeze--which I don't believe I've gotten into in detail, if I mentioned it here at all--is my proposed move into Miss Priss's office is now mandatory. At least I'm easy to port [already threw my knick-knacks into a leftover bag and scooted my under-desk cabinet to its new home, everything else can stay/be removed as I scan], but I had kinda hoped I could move voluntarily... who doesn't, I guess, but still.
Pretty much as soon as this was proposed--waiting only on IT to move my computer and phone [I'd do it myself, but I'm certain there are things in place that prevent simply moving it all]--there was an upper management meeting where it was counterproposed that Administration doesn't need that office in the first place...
Yeah |='
Naturally, Falco pushed back, and [I think] the Engineering VP did as well, because WE USE THAT OFFICE for more than just status or whatever. If we didn't have that office, where would all the confidential personnel files go? [I was brought on to help scan them before sending all the old ones off-site, and obviously we still use the active ones.] There's a whole office for Accounting storage that NOBODY is using except to dump files in! What's going on with THAT? >_<
I *believe* Falco met with the
usurper CFO* to work out a better solution, especially since four of the n00bs are only here for a couple of months guaranteed [contract dependent], so it looks like Barfy** is moving into the storage office... hopefully. Every other proposed solution sounds awful, other than upper management taking a look at who actually uses what office space [e.g. Barfy is here half the month in two-week stretches, if that, why does he get a whole office that this new guy who maybe doesn't need an office could have instead].
*I don't remember if I named her, though I guess it's not gonna matter too much if I reuse Usurper since I doubt I'll be going back to Caketown
**If I didn't name him already, he's the upper management dork who wants us to do his reimbursements for him and whines when we don't/can't
Of course, I'm still not looking forward to working so closely with Miss Priss--even though she spends more time at the reception desk [where it was proposed that BOTH of us work instead...?!?] because her office computer is slow-ass-balls-fucknuts--because I already get [secretly] fed up with how much of a crutch she wants me to be when doing these reimbursements that she's supposed to own but I end up supervising and could honestly do myself in like five minutes per each vs. THREE HOURS watching her do it.
I mean, yeah, she's learning, but she's getting to about 80% there and regularly forgetting things that are on EVERY report; e.g. Schreibertooth takes a taxi TO the airport, Schreibertooth takes a taxi FROM the airport, therefore there are two taxi receipts for each report [she does one and doesn't register there is a second--"Didn't I already do this?"]. She still can't type--"hunt and peck" is an overstatement of her skills--and regularly types, for instance, "10.00" and goes back with the mouse to put in a dollar sign, or "tucson Az" and goes back WITH THE MOUSE and tries to capitalize that correctly and add the comma between. She doesn't quite understand how Delete and Backspace work [she ALWAYS highlights what she wants to delete]. And if she had to type the same thing over and over with different dates, it would look something like this:hotal expense for 1/31/13
Hotal expenese for 2/1/ to 2/5/2013
hotal Expenses for 2/14/2013
hotel expenes for 2/15/13
ARGH I DON KNOW X_X >_< It's aggravating having to watch her type and correcting every little thing! [I told Falco later, since my name shows up in the comments instead of Miss Priss's, that I go back and correct her typos] The HR records are even more aggravating, since I'm not *technically* allowed to have access since I'm only a contractor, and the way the record system is set up is baffling that I'm surprised she's managed to get even a couple of people entered without having to ask me why it says "Error: SSN is required." and won't let her save... ¬_¬
I s'pose it would help THE COMPANY if I took over for her, but even thinking that still feels icky, despite the writing on the wall =/ I mean, it really is kinda like working with my mother... they both have about the same grasp of technology [and I'm convinced that Miss Priss is at least a little dyslexic], plus I really don't want to deal with receptioning if I don't have to do it 9_9
ANYWAY, I still mostly think the job's okay, but so much of it makes my
eyes roll. I technically haven't even got paid yet since going independent =/ but I was following the letter of my contract and submitted a MONTHLY invoice on the 30th... hoping I get something in Moneybag's check run on Friday... =_= *cinches belt to futilely counteract knee-jerk celebratory splurging*
[more on the splurging later, if I get another IDGAF moment]
