4189: Forever Got Shorter (LP Version)

Apr 07, 2012 02:25

Even Marilyn thinks business reply envelopes should be used to punish junk mailers! =D

I don't know how I forgot the most IMPORTANT thing I figured out at work! See, I could only ever scan batches of ~20 pages at a time because THERE WAS A DAMNED LIMITER ON E-MAILS D=< So I upped that to the max [vs. ~1MB], and WOO I CAN SCAN 200 PAGES AT ONCE NOW =D =D =D

...well, when they don't jam the feeder, 'cause it only holds about fifty, and sliding pages underneath is iffy at best.

I also discovered a big spider D= D= D= I mean, it wasn't HUGE, but it was solid beige-ish, and I can't remember if those are a poisonous kind. I mean, always assuming AAUGH KILL IT is safest, of course, and hell if I was gonna try to catch it and dump it outside.

So... yes. Three weeks at this place [I get the feeling I shouldn't name it since it's impermanent, but I'm sure a few of you may have heard of it in some fashion or other], and it feels like FOREVAR has passed. T_T Well, I mean, I'm falling asleep progressively less each day, and--perceptually--the day drags a little less each day, which may be from working out a thing to keep me relatively active. See, I could scan everything I have prepped at once, but that means I end up going through a million e-mails, until I figure out this file thing, but even then it would be a lot of files named "20120406103532754.pdf" and along those lines >_<

I mean, I *can* name the files at the copier/printer/scanner, but it's so fucking irritating using the keypad on that that I'd sooner just fuss with that at my computer.

Instead, I do a folder or two, depending on how many individual documents they contain, then I go back with the scanned folder(s) and some unprepped ones, go through the files, put away the QA'd ones, then prep the ones I haven't gotten to while scanning. Apparently prepping goes faster/easier at a desk than when fussing with heaps of papers while hunched over a copier! 9_9

What bugs me mainly is, since I took off the limiter on e-mails, I've actually only gotten a rare few "large" documents [>50 pages], with each new folder containing fifty single pages, many of them untitled notes I have no idea what to name =/ This would've been fine back when I had a limit and no Acrobat set up to "stitch" documents together, but now it's irritating! [Why did I not start with the single-page folders? Because I was told to start with the big binders...]

Also, I remembered I can drag pages in Acrobat to rearrange them vs. the extracting, then reinserting pages I was doing until now -_- I don't know why I keep forgetting useful hacks like that!

Still reading An Acceptable Time at work, still not really excited about where it's going. I moved The Pelican Brief into the bathroom as my new reader--it's much better by far, 'cause the chapters are shorter =p [I don't normally mind long chapters, but shorter ones mean I can find a stopping point sooner and don't have to use a bookmark, minimizing how much stuff I have to touch].

Someone also brought in a boatload of children's books "free to good home" [do they charge for bad homes, I wonder?], but none of them really looked like they'd hold my interest. Stuff like Hanukkah Money? *shrug* More of interest was the extra free food, in addition to bagels and doughnuts, but by the time they put it out, I was kinda full, and by the time I was hungry again, it was all gone but buns and lettuce. [I did take some buns and extra bagels for C.]

...ya know, for my subject line, I think I'm still blathering on too much for these =/ Not like any of y'all are really so interested in the goings-on of a desk jockey!

I figure next week I'm drawing some dreams I had. I know what I like to draw [character-focused material vs. random crap], and I know kind of what Sketch Bet likes to reblog [though I'm mildly miffed they missed a day's reblog, as much as I'm retraining myself to worry about my own interests first], so I have to keep changing up my subject matter to strike a good balance. The challenge is nice, anyway--while it's annoying they reblogged my [sort of] fan pic vs. my original content [ignoring the almost-Mustang], I do like forcing myself to draw more technical stuff on occasion, and bonus points if I can unlock the achievement of getting someone to reblog it [as difficult as that is with more people dipping out now, though I wonder if even the hosts are burning out].

I also figured out from a temporary return of letter tiles that Draw Something is most likely directly conflicting with Hanging, which is why I've been getting the No Letters glitch and, say, metalfox hasn't [that he's mentioned]. I don't really dig that Zynga owns both now, especially since they haven't done anything [yet?] to rectify the apparent conflict between the two, but I can't really decide which I would discard if it came to that. On one hand, more people play Hanging with me [particularly my brother, who is otherwise only Facebook-obnoxious to me]. On the other hand, it's kinda fun drawing something decent and being able to post screencaps.

It's aggravating even experimenting with Hanging now, because I'm stuck at 199/200 points for the next earned coins, with no way to get that last point. I've at best figured that it temporarily resets my tile placement if SOMEONE ELSE sends a play, who isn't in a game that's stuck with no letters. I've tried starting random games, but it seems to break when I initiate the move, sometimes even when I don't. I dunno--basically, this game is broken, and sometimes Draw Something is also broken [I've lost three drawings in a row--they never made it to the other player], and some of it is that both are doing push notifications over the other. I guess I'll turn off notifications for one and see if that works, but I'm not that hopeful.

[I also figured out that "Random Game" must work by searching for other players who want random games at the same time I do, which is why 1. it sometimes takes so long, and 2. I do not get random games when I don't ask for them. Someone seemed perplexed by the wait time in the review for the game, is why I mention.]

There are some other topics I've been ranting about on other people's posts, but I'd sooner not bring those to top. The vitriol seems appropriate there, not so much here =/
