4104: Unlucky Strike

The costume fares poorly so far--though, to be fair, my mail-order stuff has yet to arrive.

One of the problems I have is being able to clearly picture X at store Y and spending so much time to find X that it inevitably disappoints me. I'm not even picturing things that are a stretch of the imagination: dye at Target [which I'm positive has been there FOREVAR] and solid green OR white leggings/tights at ANYWHERE THAT SELLS CLOTHES.

The other problem I have is not being able to figure things out on the first try, necessitating multiple repurchases [white leggings + green dye = not exactly the desired result]. I am going to try one last time to find something closer to the target colour in legging/tights format before caving and ordering them online, mostly because online seems to cost more to ship than the item costs, and that feels like a waste--even if I already spent as much getting the wrong shade of green.

[Funny thing: Rayon takes WAY too well to dye, but it's practically unaffected by bleach... ugh.]

[[note: also not really that funny]]

Phase 2 of "fix what's on-hand" is to take the $7 WIP I found and make it... significantly less crap. It's the correct length--it just needs... no frilly shit... maybe a zipper, but certainly hem up the raggedy edges. REALLY not surprised it was clearance, as awfully as it was made, but even if I fuck it up, it's a good base for reverse-engineering[/seamstressing?] a REAL jacket out of a swath of nicer fabric if it comes to that.

Note: Since I haven't figured out yet what I'll have to make vs. buy off the rack, the only fabric I've bought so far is a swath of grey vinyl that was in the remnants section at Hancock. Could make a good jacket from it, but I wanna use it for boots if I can figure that out. I'm also saving on some heavy wire I was going to get from Home Depot or other by realizing there were a metric ASSLOAD of wire coathangers taking up space in the closet... 9_9

Still to get: Styrofoam/plastic head [so to construct a head around it vs. around my or C's head], all kinds of fabric, maybe more dye if it forces my hand.

...I guess I'm really doing this thing, aren't I... -_- *did not need another time-intensive project*
