Today's musing on writing:
I have a book next to me at all times--when writing
this year's Nano, anyway--and I consult it regularly for... I'm not really sure what. I didn't follow what it says to the letter, basing it more on what the characters were like before I shovelled them into a "trope savvy" book, so it's both funny when I happen to get it to match and annoying when I don't. The problem is it's too late to go back and fix the ones that don't match--I don't really want to change anything, even though at the end it will seem like it doesn't make sense that I did it the way I did.
What book is it? Perhaps I'll share in the author's note. It's just a little spoilery, otherwise. [Though it's vaguely amusing if you can see where it's going early on, like, "Oh oh! There's who's coming next!" ...as much as that requires being fairly puzzle-smart and/or having TEH GOOGLE]
I also finally re-acquired a recipe I'll be using for Fanksgiven this year--sharing mostly so I'll still have it down the road [unlike last time when I got the recipe, never made it, lost the recipe, and had to ask for it again]:Charlotte Russe
Mainer family recipe
Ingredients
- 3 envelopes of Knox unflavored gelatin
- 4 eggs, separated (uses only the egg whites)
- 1 pint of whipping cream
- 1 ½ cups of sugar
- 1 angel food cake (or sponge cake)
Procedure
- Gelatin:
- Dissolve the 3 envelopes of unflavored gelatin in a little water or milk.
- Add 1 cup of hot milk.
- Let cool “completely”.
- Egg whites:
- Beat the whites of 4 eggs.
- Add ¾ cup of sugar.
- Whipped cream:
- Whip 1 pint of whipping cream.
- Add ¾ cup of sugar.
- Make the Charlotte Russe:
- Shred the angel food cake into the serving bowl. (Instead of shredding, you can also cut the cake into strips.)
- Mix the whipped cream, beaten egg whites and the gelatin.
- Pour the liquid (Whipped cream, et al.) over the angel food cake.
- Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate until set (overnight).
CAVEAT: contains raw eggs, do not serve to anyone with allergies to egg
Also gotta remember to mail out brother present! That needs to get there about Turkey Day, too... hmm.
