3654: In The Shadows

Oct 20, 2010 00:56

Despite my best interests, I'm staying up to post this.

First, remind me why I don't like General Tso's, because I seem to forget that every time we get it. ["Hello bathroom, my old friend. I've come to speak with you again."]

Second, after reading Aaron Diaz's article on silhouettes, I decided to take my shelved "draw all my characters" project and turn it on its side [almost literally].

Spelled out, character variance is at its best when each has a distinctive profile, emphasized when silhouetted. If all characters are distinguishable by their shadows, A WINNER IS YOU. Even the fandom's mistress of the photoreal has said as much, though even actual people have a larger degree of distinguishing features than the average "only distinguishable by hair style/colour" anime characters.

So, with the week's major chores out of the way [putting off replacing my now one-day-of-non-use-battery-life phone for now, since it does at least last a full day], I started with my most iconic* characters:

*Determining order is tough for me. I have a personal preference, and it doesn't remotely match how others' would rank my characters because I haven't devoted enough time to them all for others to see even a fraction of what I see in them. Popularity is also a tough call--there's one runaway, a couple of stragglers, then...?? Anyway, you get what you get.

The silhouettes above are the "hard" grade if this is done as a quiz. If you need a hint, here are the "easy" grade:

...what are the answers? Are you serious? =|

XD Just kidding. It's late, and I want to clean up the answer keys [scanner is a bit crap even scanning at 600dpi], so you get that tomorrow. Also, I can gauge interest this way.

I had a third started and almost finished, but General Tso's had some ideas... so you get the rest tomorrow. [I have to explain that one, anyway, which would take another five hours I don't have.]

Incidentally, they look like they're in a walk cycle because 1. it's more descriptive [see ancient Egyptian art], and 2. I might actually finish the cycles since I've been in this mindset of late.
