I already have some corrections in the new year =p It had occured to me that I had read some but not all of the liner notes for the H2G2, and I found that Dirk Maggs [who had a huge hand in the resurrection of the broadcast] said Adams had hinted that maybe he had more adventures for Arthur et al.--which sounds really strange. It's kind of like the alternate ending of 24 S1, where [SPOILER] :/ but then anyone who's given the chance to constantly rewrite a single story is likely to be prone to having new ideas once in a while [i.e. the army of Lintillas never appeared anywhere but the broadcast, and what's up with Humma Kavula in the movie?], so it's not entirely out of line.
It's just WEIRD.
Also, from the bonus Kaleidoscope track, someone's comments on drinking the Pan Galactic Gargle Blasters they actually made: "he went straight from being sober to having a hangover without ever passing through drunk in between" =p which sounds like it would kill me flat out, I think. The recipe was supposed to be a secret, at least at the time of the broadcast, but
there is some speculation. I got my hardback of Mortal Engines today, and apparently at least one artist thinks London is a tank-fortress, basically. I guess that's an easy way to do it =/ but the alternate cover messes with my idea of what the thing looks like. I mean, I had these mental images of at least a little open area for atriums and things, as awkward as that would be. I was also hoping to do my own interpretations of Tom and Hester that don't look like Marc's 9_9 but I also have to re-read the thing to make sure all of what's in my head matches what the book actually says.
Then again, countless HP interpretations don't all look the same, do they?
Borders once again didn't have the Fantasy Landscapes book I was looking at getting, but at this point maybe I don't need to be buying more books at a faster rate than pictures I've finished 9_9 although I did flip through the
Manga Matrix book that at the least actually has a Japanese person overseeing it X/

Barring the n00b artists who haven't gotten past copying someone else's style, the problem is not in creating distinctive characters, I think, but more in making these characters identifiable. Why should I be interested in a gorilla golem made of rock? Is it cute? Is it suffering a plight with which I can relate, such as being spurned by a beloved? The problem with what is perceived as the problem in creating new characters is really that there are sixteen recognizable personality types, yet somehow all sixteen of them are "cliché" when used. Or, if you use straight emotions, hey, guess what? That means being HAPPY is pretty "cliché"--everyone is at some point, after all--as is being sad, angry, sick, etc. It's frustrating hearing that a character or story has X, Y, and Z overused qualities... I think pretty much all of them do, don't they?
But I suppose the Manga Matrix is more for pin-ups and such trite shit, rather than in-depth storytelling that all of these How To Draw books glaze over, perhaps because THEY DON'T GET IT.

I owe at least one more riddle to get back up to one/day rate, but the ones that first come to mind are more matchstick puzzles, which will take me a bit. Or, wait, I thought of a more appropriate one [if you catch my hint], from the GL forums:Find three words that use all of the following letters:

I do feel as though the week has gone completely wasted at this point, even if spending twelve+ hours a day sick in bed is to blame. I feel loads better, though, and I feel like I have a lot of ground to recover. At the very least, I'm going to have to chunk out a draft of the final book cover touch-up, if only to motivate myself to scurry along with the rest of the project, if I don't get sidetracked with the new ideas I have for [at least scrapping out] a new muchly-needed website design to fluff out my portfolio more convincingly, even if I'm rusty on anything beyond tables.
Ah, so many choices! *shakes fist*
