I was so incredibly exhausted and high by the time this film started that my head kept sliding sideways. And I think that might have happened no matter what I was on - L EGEND OF ZU is some far out shit that even a solid background in Asian preposterousness cannot have prepared me for. Tsui Hark's animation studio has now turned to full-out CGI with live-action, and they take their legends very seriously, adding just enou gh extreme touches to keep jaded modern audiences interested. Enormous wings made of thousands of swords. Flying through other dimensions to where your enemy awaits his ass-kicking. Characters with names like Insomnia, King Sky, and White Eyebrows. Apparently the storyline really doesn't make any sense at all, so I feel a little better about my near-total incomprehension.
