STAR TREK

OMG TYLER PERRY WTF.

OK, now that that's out of my system, I can actually breathe and progress. Actually, you read that right. Tyler Perry is in this movie. FUCKIN' TYLER PERRY. What the hell. And he does OK, too! I didn't want to set anyone on fire after seeing him!

You know, I don't want to do a full review until I've seen it a second time. I found it enormously enjoyable and a bunch of fun, and it's both close enough to and different enough from Original Series canon that it was OK. It doesn't quite feel like "Star Trek" exactly; it feels like a whole new different thing, actually. Sort of. But with Starfleet and Vulcan and the Enterprise and stuff. And Leonard Nimoy as Spock. Yes, he is actually playing Spock, really and truly, because he can't NOT be original-flavor Spock. He created that shit. And it's great great great to see him. But it's a little weird, like a crossover. Like a "OMG Mrs. Garrett and Tootie are on Diff'rent Strokes tonight!" kind of thing.

But everyone is gorgeous and high-intensity and funny and awesome and I will happily pay to see it a second time - perhaps even a third, though that will probably wait until there's a second-run brewpub involved. I didn't like it because it was Star Trek; I liked it because it was a hella fun movie that didn't insult my intelligence any more than pop scifi ever does (with the exception of some really poorly thought-out 20th century cultural references that just plain did not belong and JJ Abrams should be ashamed of himself for giving into his love of TEEENAGE EXTREEEEEEME!), and contained tons of thrills, turn-ons, oh-snaps, "Hey it's her!" moments, and my boo bear Eric Bana. Yes, I love him. Shut up. I like HULK.

Oh yeah and Zachary Quinto? Is a star. Nobody can deny that now.

A longer review to come in the future.

Seriously. Tyler Perry? What fuckery is this? I suspect either a blowjob, some financing, or both.

asskicking, sexy, remake, scifi, hotness viewing, theater, eye candy, wtf, instant classic, awesome, adaptation
