after walking to the domestic terminal and taking the train to the international terminal we checked our bags in - no way are they leaving without us now!!! safe at last we had a smoothie and then went through customs & went to our gate. waited about 20 minutes and then boarded the plane. the flight consisted of a lot of discomfort, the astronaut farmer, music and lyrics, catch and release, and some other german subtitled film. we ate a chicken stew, a snakc (pistrami and mandarin and lemon cookie) and had fruit for breakfast. eventually we landed in los angeles and wandered around, checked the internet to make sure that there would be a friendly face at the ned of the next flight and then found a massive lego statue of liberty. wow.
after drinking what appeared to be water but was actually 'raspberry' water (tasted like sugar water to me) we sat down for our flight. 3 hours and we arrived in vancouver where the lovely christine was waiting for us. the border guard asked me a lot of questions (where are you going? you've been here before? who are you staying with? are you travelling alone?) and i was scared he'd take me to a small room for more questioning, but luckily he let me though!
we caught the bus to the bc ferries and then the ferry to saanich where we were met by more lovely people (justine and jason). we drove to justine's to have a shower and change, then hit a restaraunt called 'the reef' - carribean food! very tasty, massive private booth, live djs, mojitos all round. after that we came home (it was like 12) and i slept like a log (poor aaron didnt go so well).
the next morning we slept in and then met justine at johns place. i had a very interesting corn beef hash (see facebook in a few weeks for more details!) and then had a look at the patch. justine left so aaron chris and i went to the waterfront to see the parliament building and the empress hotel (very pretty, lots of ivy). some interesting buskers and then we met up with jason. he took us to a marina were alegedly there were seals who would eat fish from us. turns out he was telling the truth (surprise!). we bought little packets of fish and the seals were so cool they would jump up for food and splash. apparently two of them used to be trained.
we decided to go to the buchart gardens, and after a lovely drive we found they were $25 per person and so turned back to the butterfly gardens, which were unfortunately closing. so we went to time hortons and met justine and accidentally her friend miranda. then we went to peacocks billiards to play 8 ball and foosball. i am not so good at these!
wandered around trying to find a place to eat a late dinner and eventually settled on 'darcys'. i had poutine and a lovely honey lager beer. then we met aaron (from here) and went up mount doug to see the view and bumped into some lovely stoned kids. after a while the ranger came and said he was shutting the gates so we went home and sat around for a while before the boys headed off. very sad.
chris, justine and i had a bit of a girly chat and now i am writing this.
hope you are all in good health and keeping well.
with love, jemma.
