I am more mud-encrusted than I have ever been in my life.
Or, well, my gloves were. And my boots, and the bottoms of my pants, and my poncho, and the sleeves of my coat where they stuck out of said poncho. Basically every bit of me that was on the external layer. Covered in mud.
Restoration class went on a planting today. Upland oak savanna prairie, down by Salem - a site that's been in the restoration process for about 12 years now, and is looking pretty good. We were planting irises and wild carrot. It was foggy and drizzly and chill, and the clay-loam soil was thick and sticky, clinging to whatever touched it. I'm gonna have to do some serious damage control on that poncho.
Somehow I managed to get a damn sight muddier than anyone else. Really, I don't know how I did it. Using the poncho as a kneeling cloth probably had a lot to do with it, but that doesn't explain how my gloves and boots were completely caked when everyone else managed to get away with just a light streaking. What the hell?
Anyway, now it's time for me to fix up my Halloween costume and hit the road back into Portland for some good ol' fashioned funtimes. Probably epic amounts of Mario Kart and rum-drinking.
